Gate 8 is all about style, self-expression, and sharing your unique self with the world. It’s the kind of energy that turns heads. And it’s not because it’s loud or flashy, but because it’s authentic. This gate has a natural gift for drawing attention to things that are new, different, and totally “you.”
If you’re someone who’s always discovering that cool little artist before they blow up, styling outfits in ways no one else is doing, or finding meaning in places others overlook, you’re likely vibing with Gate 8.
This gate sits in the throat centre (aka: where we express things outward and communicate with the world), and when it’s active, it’s like having an internal spotlight operator. Not just for you, but for others too. You might feel called to promote or champion people, causes, ideas, or creations that resonate with you deeply.
It’s not about attention for attention’s sake, it’s about using your voice and visibility to uplift something that matters to you. You’re the person saying, “Look at this! It’s important!” And when it’s aligned? People listen.
If Gate 8 is defined in your chart, you’re likely someone with a strong sense of individuality and a deep desire to express that out loud. You want to be seen—but only when what you’re sharing feels true to you. You probably feel best when you're using your platform, your voice, or your presence to highlight something that excites or inspires you. The shadow side? You might worry people won’t get you, or you might hold back your self-expression to “fit in.” But this gate thrives when you let yourself stand out and trust that the right people will notice.
If Gate 8 is undefined, you might feel a pull to “find your thing” or struggle with the urge to be recognized in a way that doesn’t quite feel like you. Or maybe you’re more likely to be influenced by others’ tastes, feeling pressure to promote or perform in ways that aren’t aligned. Your magic is in being selective about what you amplify. You don’t have to have the “thing”, you can simply shine a light on others who do, when it feels good to you. Watch how much clarity comes when you’re not trying to chase attention but instead letting your attention guide you.
My contemplation’s:
My gate 8 is defined meaning this is an innate gift I hold AND one of the ways that I express myself and communicate to the world. To me, this gate is about sharing myself and the things that I love, fully and completely. Gate 8 is also connected to Gate 1 (also defined in my chart), which is the gate of creativity. If you have the 1-8 channel, you may also resonate deeply with this. So what does this all mean to me? I deeply feel that Gate 8 is all about sharing your authentic voice and expressing yourself through your creativity. For me, my creativity comes from my writing and dance. I find that I have a more challenging time using my voice through the spoken work to get across what I am trying to share, but when I write and/or dance I can share the depths of my emotions and authenticity and it just feels so much more easeful.
I went live again on IG to talk into what this means a little more (you can watch that below if you want to dive in — I also talk about the throat centre and some of the other gates within it!)
This is (yet another) important reminder that we all are unique in not only who we are, but how we choose to express ourselves and our human design chart can help us live life in a way that doesn’t always have to be so challenging. So, if you are someone who also has Gate 8 defined, play around with expressing yourself through your creative bursts. And, play around with expressing yourself based on some of tips below:
Real-Life Ways to Work with Gate 8 Energy:
Be your own hype person: not in a “look at me!” kind of way, but in a “this is me and I love it” kind of way. Whether it’s your outfit, your art, or your ideas. Own it and shout it out to the world.
Share what you love: if something lights you up, talk about it. Recommend the book, post the playlist, tag the local artist. Your enthusiasm is contagious.
Highlight someone else’s brilliance: if you’re feeling stuck on what you want to share, amplify someone else’s voice. Gate 8 often loves curating just as much as creating.
Notice what you’re drawn to: trends, ideas, aesthetics—what catches your eye this week? That’s where your attention wants to go. Trust it.
Don’t force “the thing”: you don’t need a brand, a niche, or a mission statement to be impactful. You just need to be real. People feel that.
Journal prompts for the week:
What feels uniquely me right now? Am I allowing it to be seen?
Where am I holding back from expressing myself out of fear of being “too much”?
Is there someone or something I feel called to shine a light on this week?
What do I naturally draw attention to without even trying?
Gate 8 reminds us that there’s power in standing out and sharing what lights us up, not for attention, but for connection. Whether you're creating, curating, or championing others, your voice matters. So… what are you putting the spotlight on this week?
