Ah, Gate 20. The gate of right here, right now. We are still focusing on the Throat Centre this week, and if you remember back to last week, this is all about expression yourself into the world. Gate 20 in particular is about being fully, unapologetically you in the present moment, and letting your words and actions reflect that.
This gate doesn’t plan ahead. It doesn’t dwell on the past. It’s not out here strategizing a five-year vision board. Gate 20 wants to be in it, now, speaking what’s true, doing what feels aligned, and trusting that presence is enough.
Honestly, it’s kind of a vibe to me 💃🏻 It’s the energy of someone who speaks something aloud and instantly shifts the room. And it’s because their voice is rooted in authenticity, not performance. Their being does the talking, just by showing up as themselves.
If you have Gate 20 defined, this may be a very natural part of how you move through life. You’re here to speak from presence and power, but only when it feels right. You don’t need to force it or rehearse it. When you’re in alignment, the right words tend to flow through you. The magic? It happens in the moment. The challenge? Feeling pressure to explain, prove, or plan things out when really, your strength is in showing up as you, in this moment.
If your Gate 20 is undefined, this week might feel like you’re more sensitive to people who are deeply present, or like you’re being nudged to slow down and be here instead of spiraling into overthinking or future-tripping. You might even feel some pressure to respond quickly or say the right thing on the spot. Let yourself off the hook. Your clarity doesn’t always have to be immediate, and your voice is still powerful even if it’s not always reactive.
My contemplation’s:
This gate is personal. I have Gate 20 defined and for me, this feels like the most challenging yet rewarding gate in my entire chart. It is about a topic that I focus so much of my brand and my business, and who I show up in the world on. Yet, it’s something that I find difficulty with every single day.
If you know anything about the Gene Keys (a derivative of Human Design based on a journey through the consciousness of the 64 gates), they dive deeeep into each gate. I was reading about Gate 20 from the perspective of the Gene Keys and it just made so much sense in why this gate can feel so sticky. Human beings have evolved to have a conscious and analytical brain - which is so beautiful, yet it has also caused turmoil in our lives in something known as “over-thinking”. Whether it be about the past or the future, this type of thinking takes us out of the present. True and complete presence is when you have fully and completely let go of using your mind to do the thinking and the planning, or the back tracking and the sadness, and instead, surrender into the idea that life will happen the way it is meant to. You simply have to be you, right now, and allow it to be by releasing control.
Easier said than done, I know that. I can get SO in my head, spiralling through what I should do or say or be. What I could have done to make things better. But when I slow down and speak from how I actually feel, right now (not yesterday or next week) that’s when I feel most aligned. Most magnetic. Most me. As with quite literally everything in life, this is a work in progress and a daily activity that I have to actively make happen, to surrender into the present moment. I fail at it very often and that’s okay. It comes from years, generations, of conditioning and evolution that does not just change over-night.
Gate 20 reminds me, and all of us, to connect to our body. To trust that our inner authority will guide the way — not the thoughts in our mind. Trust yourself and who you are in each moment, and just BE. That my friend, is the secret to your success.
Practical ways to work with Gate 20 energy this week:
1. Practice grounding into the moment – Place a hand on your heart or belly. Breathe. Before you say yes/no/anything at all, pause and ask, “Is this true for me right now?”
2. Speak from what you know in the moment – Don’t over-script. If you're sharing or expressing something this week, let it come from what’s real right now, not what you think people want to hear.
3. Slow your responses – Give yourself full permission to say, “Let me feel into that.” You don’t have to have all the answers immediately to be powerful.
4. Trust the timing – If it’s not time to act or speak, that’s okay. Gate 20 is deeply connected to divine timing. When it’s time to move, you’ll know.
5. Tune into your body – The present lives in the body, not the mind. Movement, stillness, breath work—whatever brings you back to your body, lean into that.
6. Let your being speak – Sometimes you don’t even have to say anything. Your presence (when you’re truly grounded in your authenticity) is felt. That alone can be transformative.
Some journal prompts to reflect on this week:
Where in my life am I rushing to respond, rather than waiting to feel what’s true in the moment?
What helps me feel grounded and connected to right now?
What shifts when I let my presence do the talking instead of trying to say the “right” thing?
Gate 20 is here to remind us that you don’t need to plan the perfect moment— just be present for the one you’re in.
