Gate 53 is the energy of the spark. That moment where you feel a little buzz and think, ooh… maybe I’ll try that. It lives in the Root Centre, so it’s not just about ideas, it’s a pressure to begin, to move, to create momentum. It’s like a cosmic green light yelling, “GO!” even if the rest of you is still stuck at the stop sign.
And if you’re someone who lives for the thrill of something new, this gate might feel like home. It doesn’t mean you’re flaky or inconsistent, it just means you’re wired to initiate movement. You’re the one who kicks off the project, says “Let’s try this,” or books the trip before anyone else even thinks about packing. There’s magic in that.
But here’s the part that takes some wisdom: Just because you can start something doesn’t mean you should.
This energy doesn’t always stick around for the long haul. It’s the beginning, not the middle or the end. So part of your deconditioning might be releasing the belief that you have to follow through on everything or that it’s wrong to hand things off, change your mind, or pause.
You are allowed to start something and not finish it. You’re allowed to be the spark that sets something in motion and let someone else carry it to the finish line. That doesn’t make you unreliable, it makes you honest.
If Gate 53 is defined in your chart, you probably feel this momentum all the time. There’s a natural pull toward trying something new, starting new projects, mixing things up. When it’s aligned? You’re unstoppable. When it’s not? You might find yourself overcommitting, overwhelmed, or abandoning things halfway through. The trick is learning to check in with your strategy and authority before jumping in. What’s a yes from your body, and what’s just you responding to outside pressure or FOMO? When your “start” comes from alignment, it builds something beautiful, even if you don’t finish it yourself.
Let it be messy, let it be nonlinear, let it be yours.
If Gate 53 is undefined in your chart, this week you might feel like starting a million things. Or suddenly feel pressure to get your life together immediately (hello Root Center transit). You might find yourself itching to redo your website, start a new workout plan, move to Portugal, and launch a business (all before lunch). But here’s a reframe for you: this isn’t yours to carry forever. This pressure is passing through. So before you follow the urge to overhaul your whole life, take a beat and ask:
Is this true for me? Or am I trying to keep up with energy that isn’t mine?
You can absolutely borrow the momentum of Gate 53 this week, especially if it feels exciting and aligned. Just don’t make decisions out of pressure. Trust your natural timing. You’re not behind. You’re not broken. You’re not lazy. (I promise, I feel you)
My contemplation’s:
As I just hinted, Gate 53 is undefined in my chart. And as I shared in my last transit post, my Root Centre is also undefined. I think the Root Centre is so underrated and not talked about enough. This centre causes an enormous amount of pressure to move and make things happen, but it also governs our stress. If you are someone with your Root Centre undefined like me, these last/next few weeks can feel really challenging. To make things even harder, we absorb and amplify the energy of those with a defined root. This week feels so important as a reminder that there is no need to rush. Time is nuanced and we are not meant to be like everyone else.
Even if you do have a defined root, you may feel a massive amount of stress if you are not living in the wisdom of this centre. In the wisdom you are balanced, cool, calm and collected amongst the chaos of the world around you.
To me, this week is the perfect time to use or borrow this energy to start something new OR to let go of the things we have been holding onto for so long. I love using the transits to utilize the energy that I don’t always have defined in my own chart, even when it does feel challenging. It brings me (and us) so much awareness of who we are, and even more importantly, why some things may feel so stressful for us and not for others (and vice versa).
Ways to Work with Gate 53 this Week:
1. Feel into what wants to begin without attaching to what it “needs to become.” You don’t need to plan the entire journey before you take the first step. This is a week to just begin.
Set a 20-minute timer and journal any ideas or dreams you’ve been putting off because they felt “too big.”
Pick one small step: try a free class, sketch out an outline, talk to a friend about the idea.
Let it be an experiment, not a commitment.
2. Let go of the pressure to “see it through.” Some things are just meant to get you started.
Our culture is obsessed with finishing. But Gate 53 reminds you: you’re the spark but you don’t have to be the whole damn fire!
Make a “permission slip” list: write down things you’ve started and never finished and give yourself permission to let them go.
Ask yourself: Do I still want to finish this? Or am I holding on because I feel like I “should”?
Practice passing the baton: delegate, collaborate, or simply trust someone else will pick it up if it’s meant to continue.
3. Notice where you over-identify with being “the one who finishes” or feel guilty for changing your mind. This one's for the overachievers, perfectionists, (me 😅)
Catch your inner dialogue. Do you hear thoughts like: “I can’t quit now,” “I don’t want to waste what I’ve already done,” or “People will think I’m flaky”?
Reframe: what if stopping was actually a sign of wisdom and self-trust?
Try saying this aloud: “I’m allowed to change my mind. Letting go is not failing.”
4. Let yourself play! What’s a low-stakes, joyful beginning you can explore this week? Not everything needs to be strategic, productive, or lead to something big. Gate 53 is also about playful beginnings.
Start a random creative project you’ve always been curious about: watercolors, making a playlist, trying a new recipe, building a weird Pinterest board for a dream you haven’t told anyone yet.
Ask yourself: What would feel FUN to start right now even if no one ever sees it or it goes nowhere?
5. Collaborate! Let other people help carry the torch (you don’t have to do it all). This is a HUGE one if you’ve ever felt like you “have to finish what you started” or carry all the weight yourself.
Look at any projects on your plate right now. Is there anything someone else could take over or contribute to?
Practice asking for help or inviting someone in: “Hey, I got this started, do you want to help me run with it?”
If you’re a business owner or creative, think about partnerships or delegation. Starting is your magic. Lean into it and then let support in.
Journal Prompts:
What am I ready to start, just for me, with no pressure to finish?
Where do I feel guilt or shame around things I’ve left unfinished?
How do I know when something is worth my energy and when it’s not?
What would change if I let myself follow the spark, without needing to justify it?
You don’t need to justify your excitement. You don’t need to force yourself to follow through on every idea you’ve ever had. You don’t need to earn rest by proving you’ve done enough. You get to trust the beginning and know that it’s sacred all on its own.
